Meet Sook Lee, IEJF’s New Board Member
Sook Lee is a Director at Stout Advisory Group. She has over 13 years of experience in providing financial and litigation consulting services to clients in a wide range of industries including professional services, securities, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, insurance, construction and manufacturing.
What motivated you to serve on the board of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation?
A former board member, Dan Broadhurst, whom I respect and consider a mentor, introduced me to the IEJF. The IEJF’s mission to protect the rights of all people and provide equal justice spoke to me right away. The idea of being able to help communities that are traditionally underserved and overlooked got me excited to serve on the board.
As a nonlegal professional, what perspective do you hope to bring to the board?
I am an accountant so I hope to add value and share my insight when it comes to financial budgets, internal controls, resource management, board recruitment and talent acquisition.
If you have just 30 seconds, how would you explain the importance of civil legal aid?
Through its grants, the IEJF helps provide legal assistance to low-income and underserved individuals, alleviating poverty and inequality. Everyone, regardless of his or her socioeconomic and financial situation, has the right to be protected and get access to justice. What better way to create and restore hope in humanity and share love by helping those in need.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I never learned how to ride a bike and it is my goal to learn it before my son beats me to it!
Let’s say you have a day free of work and other obligations. How would you spend it?
I have a one-year old son named Kai. As a full-time working mom (in consulting!), I feel that there is never enough time to spend quality time with my boy. I would like to spend a full day to explore the beautiful city of Chicago. We will have plenty of things to keep us entertained and well-fed.
