Justice in Action: Land Of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation
Bernice and Robert are senior citizens who were already 18 months behind on their mortgage when they sought help from Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation. They did not want to lose their home of 40 years to foreclosure. Their only income was Social Security and a small pension. The couple did not have a bank account. The lender repeatedly denied the couple assistance because Bernice and Robert failed to submit their nonexistent bank statements. Land of Lincoln attorneys represented the couple in mediation where the lender was forced to review the file. The couple was offered a loan modification they could afford and remain in their home, enjoying their golden years.
