ACTION ALERT: Contact Your State Legislators & Urge Them to Protect Legal Aid Funding
ACTION ALERT: Contact Your State Legislators & Urge Them to Protect Legal Aid Funding
The Illinois General Assembly is in final budget negotiations so we need you to take action!
Please contact your state legislators today and urge them to protect funding for civil legal aid via the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation in the FY22 state budget.
State funding for civil legal aid supports four major programs:
- Resolving Urgent Legal Issues: Civil Legal Aid Programs work on the top ‘bread & butter’ legal problems facing Illinoisans like family law, consumer fraud and housing.
- Protecting Veterans: Through the IL Armed Forces Legal Aid Network, veterans and military personnel can obtain free legal help to access hard-earned benefits and resolve urgent issues
- Providing a Fresh Start: New Leaf Illinois helps people with past cannabis convictions clear their records and remove major barriers to employment and housing.
- Keeping People in their Homes: Eviction Help Illinois provides free legal assistance and mediation services to renters and landlords.
