The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation is helping people wipe marijuana convictions clean off their record. The organization yesterday, announcing the launch of the “New Leaf Illinois” program. It’s an alliance of 20 organizations across the state all committed to providing free legal and advisory services to people who’ve been arrested or convicted of marijuana violations. An Illinois state representative says in Illinois alone, there are nearly 800 thousand criminal records related to marijuana. Foundation members explain, one component of the legalization of recreational marijuana use, is to recognize and rectify damage that was caused by the war on drugs.
