With recreational marijuana legalized in the state since January, a new service is working to clear records of those with cannabis-related convictions. The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation has launched New Leaf Illinois. It’s a group of organizations that provides free legal guidance for those trying to wipe marijuana convictions off their records. Most cannabis convictions in Illinois are eligible for automatic expungement. The organization says about 71 thousand other cases may not automatically be removed from people’s records. that’s where they hope to help people “turn a new leaf”.
