Consumer Settlement Fund Grants

Background

In July 2015, Attorney General Lisa Madigan won a significant consumer lawsuit and awarded $7.2 million in settlement funds to the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation to be used over the course of four years for its operations and general grants program with an eye towards increasing services for low-income people impacted by consumer law issues. The funds have been expended.

The state budget impasse left the IEJF without its state appropriation for two years.  The consumer settlement funds served as the only IEJF grants in fiscal years 2016 and 2017.
