Viviana Martinez was elected judge for the 14th Subcircuit of the Cook County Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois in the November 2022 elections.  As judge, Viviana strives to restore the public’s trust and confidence in our legal system by delivering on the promise of justice for all.

Prior to joining the judiciary, Viviana dedicated her career to public service, representing some of the most vulnerable in our community—including workers, immigrants and families facing foreclosure. She also worked to advance ethics, equity and efficiency in government. She served as the lead attorney in Cook County’s Bureau of Administration, which includes the Departments of Animal and Rabies Control, Environment and Sustainability, Emergency Management, Transportation and Highways, Research Operations and Innovation and the Office of the Medical Examiner. She has also served as a department head/manager, and she had a record of developing robust operations and successfully leading established organizations through periods of rapid and dramatic change.

After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Law with honors, Viviana joined the labor unit of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and gained valuable experience representing the Illinois Department of Labor in wage disputes

She is committed to ongoing professional development and has the distinction of being both an Edgar Fellow and a graduate of University of Chicago’s Civic Leadership Academy.
