Dorothy Capers is Senior Vice President, General Counsel at Xylem, leading the company’s legal and compliance functions. Dorothy’s teams provide global guidance and expertise for key areas including ethics and compliance, mergers and acquisitions and procurement.
Dorothy joined Xylem in 2022 as an experienced leader of global legal teams. She has deep experience in mergers and acquisitions and a strong track record of developing and supporting successful public-private partnerships, including as: Executive Vice President, Global General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the National Express Group, a $2.6 billion, publicly traded international transport provider; and Associate General Counsel, Chief Litigation and Bankruptcy Counsel for U.S. Foods.
Previously, she held several legal positions of increasing responsibility in the public sector and private practice, including the City of Chicago, Cook County State Attorney’s Office, Metra Railroad, private law practice and as a judicial law clerk with the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
Dorothy views the law as a powerful tool for people to get answers, seek justice and right wrongs. She lives this view as an active member of the legal community and community at large in Chicago, serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Chicago State University Foundation and Illinois Equal Justice Foundation.
Dorothy received her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and History, from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
