Dorothy G. Capers  is the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of National Express LLC in Warrenville, IL.  She oversees a diverse legal team that supports the company in the areas of corporate governance, employment, labor, litigation, environmental, real estate, compliance and corporate contracts.  Dorothy has worked extensively as a litigator in the state, county and local government and in the private sector for law firms and corporations.  Her government experience includes her leadership as a Deputy Corporation Counsel with the City of Chicago and as a prosecutor for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.  Dorothy has held two in-house roles prior to joining National Express – as Senior Counsel with Metra Railroad and as Associate General Counsel overseeing litigation and bankruptcy for US Foods, Inc.  At US Foods, Inc., Dorothy was a member of the team leading the $21B Company through a proposed merger with Sysco Corporation, their largest competitor.

Ms. Capers has lectured on legal topics related primarily to internal investigations, attorney client privilege, development of convergence and alternative fee proposals and best practices for developing   in- house litigation strategies.  She is a member of the National Bar Association, Cook County Bar Association and the Black Women Lawyer’s Association of Greater Chicago, where she served as President.  Dorothy sits as a member of the board of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation, the Claims and Litigation Management Association and the Black Alumni Network for the University of Illinois.

She earned her J.D. in 1987 from Howard University School of Law, Washington DC and her B.A. in 1984 from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL. She was admitted to the bar of the State of Illinois, the Federal and Trial Bar.
