News You Can Use: Access to Justice Commission Strategic Plan Released
In May, the IL Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice released Advancing Access to Justice in Illinois, its strategic plan for 2017-2020. The report builds on the accomplishments of the Commission to increase access to the courts through language access, standardized forms and meaningful data collection. The report has drawn national attention for its comprehensive approach and evaluation focus. The principles guiding the report and its recommendations include plain language, process simplification, procedural fairness, equal access and continuous improvement of the court system.
The IEJF is represented on the Access to Justice Commission by former IEJF Board President Carolyn Clift, a retired Senior Vice President of Health Care Service Corporation. Ms. Clift was a member of the Strategic Planning Committee as were IEJF staffers Leslie Corbett and Zach Zarnow. Additionally, Ms Clift serves as Chair of the Commission’s Community Trust Committee. The IEJF is proud to be part of this vital work to increase access to the court system for all Illinois residents.
