The IEJF was included in the FY 16 budget vetoed by Governor Rauner at level funding, $1.4 M. At this writing, there is NO state budget and NO appropriation for civil legal aid.
Justice in Action: Legal Aid Profile
Due to the state budget impasse, the IEJF was unable to make grants to civil legal aid organizations via its mission funding source. IEJF grants provide legal information, advice, mediation and representation to tens of thousands of vulnerable Illinoisans in crisis. Remembering Phil Rock
The IEJF was deeply saddened to receive the news of the passing of former Illinois Senate President Phil Rock. Phil served as a founding Board member of the IEJF. After his tenure on the Board, Phil co-chaired with former Governor James Thompson the Equal Justice Illinois Campaign, a bipartisan advocacy effort to increase state funding of civil legal aid. Phil served as a leader in the IEJF’s advocacy work to ensure that Illinois’ most vulnerable residents have equal access to the justice system. READ MORE
Access to Justice for Military Past & Present
The IEJF is pleased to announce a new program to help increase access to justice for veterans and active military. Plans include a statewide legal aid hotline and supporting networks to improve outreach and delivery to service members past and present.
