Deborah A. Golden is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of GATX Corporation, the world’s largest railcar leasing company. As a member of the senior leadership team at GATX, Ms. Golden is actively engaged in all facets of the company’s business including developing and implementing global strategic initiatives, and overseeing all mergers, acquisitions and divestitures.
Ms. Golden has overseen business development initiatives in India, China and other emerging markets. She led a team creating the first railcar leasing program in India and successfully negotiated a rail joint venture in China. Ms. Golden also oversees all fleet acquisitions, led a $1.3 billion divestiture of the company’s aircraft leasing business, and was instrumental in securing the largest railcar supply agreement in the Company’s 115-year history.
In addition to her legal and regulatory responsibilities at GATX, Ms. Golden is also the executive in charge of Internal Audit and Compliance. In this capacity, she is responsible for management and oversight of all internal audit initiatives, as well as the development and implementation of effective world-wide compliance and risk management programs. Ms. Golden is expert in regulatory policy, global enterprise risk management and corporate governance. She has extensive experience in public policy and legislative affairs both at the local and national levels and is actively engaged in current transportation regulatory matters. She is a frequent panelist and speaker on a variety of issues including corporate governance, regulatory and legal matters.
Possessing a deep knowledge of portfolio asset management, operating leasing and financial services products, Ms. Golden is on the board of Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance LLC (“RRPF”), the global leader in spare aircraft engine leasing. Headquartered in the UK, RRPF is a joint venture between Rolls-Royce plc and GATX, providing spare engine operating leasing to over 40 airlines in 22 countries.
Prior to joining GATX Corporation, Ms. Golden worked in highly regulated industries, serving as Vice President and General Counsel for Midwest Generation LLC, a power generation company, and Assistant General Counsel for Ameritech Corporation and SBC Communications, Inc. Ms. Golden also served in the public sector as Deputy General Counsel for the State of Illinois, Office of the Governor. Her career began as a Partner at Schiff, Hardin & Waite in Chicago. Illinois.
Ms. Golden is engaged in numerous professional and civic organizations, including serving on the boards of The Chicago Network and Women Employed. She is a member of The Economic Club of Chicago, past Chair of the Board of Governors of Loyola University School of Law and the Senior Leadership Council of Loyola Graduate School of Business. In 2009, she was chosen by the American Bar Association as one of the top 20 female attorneys in the United States with business expertise for positions on corporate boards.
Ms. Golden holds a JD and an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago (summa cum laude, Beta Gamma Sigma) and a BA from Boston College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). She resides in Chicago, Illinois with her husband and two children.
